1925 Norse Medal. PCGS MS63 Thick. Nice, original tone which emphasizes the originality of this coin. This one-year-only issue, .900 silver, Norse-American commemorative medal was struck in 1925 by the Philadelphia Mint. It pays tribute to the United States' first arrival of Norse immigrants 100 years earlier in 1825. The promoters wanted a coin, but did not lobby their case with congress, not realizing that coins could be easily sold throughout the numismatic market, but medals would be less popular. As the ONLY octagonal-shape United States commemorative issue ever struck, this unique silver medal is a true "must-have" piece for any collector of U.S. commemorative issues! $345.00
